What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Your privacy is very important to us. Accordingly, we have developed this statement concerning our privacy practices in order for you to understand how we access, collect, use, store, process, disclose, share, and delete the personal information that you provide to us from time to time in connection with your use of the Service.

From time to time, in connection with your use of the HighScores practice platform (the “Service”), we may ask you to provide us with your personal information.

We will collect your personal information by lawful and fair means.

We will not collect your personal information without your knowledge or consent.

The personal information we collect from you (or otherwise access in connection with offering the Service to you) may include your name and email address if you sign up for a free trial. If you purchase a package, we will ask for additional information to help us fulfill your order, including your billing address, phone number, and payment information. Your payment information will be securely processed by a third-party billing platform such as PayPal, Stripe, or Quickbooks, depending on the product you are ordering and your method of payment.

If you are logging in through a third-party provider, such as Google Accounts or the Educational Records Bureau (“ERB”), we may retrieve your personal information from that provider.

If you log in through Google Accounts, we will retrieve your name and email address.

If you log in through ERB, we will retrieve your name, email address, any name(s) affiliated with ERB subaccounts, and dates and components of any orders of HighScores products or services.

We will use the personal information that you provide to us or that we otherwise access to offer the Service to you, including occasional email communications with you concerning the Service, your activities on our website, your transactions with us, and communications with us that you initiate.

We may also communicate with you about improvements we have made, or are planning to make, to the Service; premium features of the Service that we may make available to you from time to time; and related products and services that we offer, now or in the future.

If you have registered for the Service through a third-party provider, such as Google Accounts or ERB, or you elect to do so, we may share personal information about you that is related to your usage of the Service with that third party with whom you have elected to register for the Service. For the avoidance of doubt, we do not access, aggregate, or analyze personal information retrieved from such third-party providers for any purpose involving the display, sale, or other distribution to a third party conducting surveillance.

And, we may use information concerning your usage of our website and the Service and personal information that you provide to us, in an anonymized and aggregated format, for purposes of conducting research (both internal and external) and improving the Service for you and other users.

If we are seeking to collect your personal information for a purpose that is not related or otherwise compatible with the purposes described above, before or at the time of collecting your personal information, we will identify for you the purposes for which your personal information is being collected before doing so. Additional purposes may appear in an update to this statement, which you will be prompted to review and to which you will be asked to consent before we use personal information in that manner. Also, if we plan to access or use a type of personal information not described in the version of this statement that you reviewed when you registered to use the Service, we will update this statement, as described in the previous sentence, and seek your consent before accessing or using that new type of personal information.

We will collect and use your personal information solely with the objective of fulfilling those purposes described in this statement, those purposes otherwise identified by us (as described in the previous sentence), and for other compatible purposes.

Also, we will retain your personal information only as long as necessary for the fulfillment of those purposes described, collectively, in the previous sentence.

Personal information supplied to us by you should be relevant to the purpose, or purposes, for which it is to be used by us, and, to the extent necessary for those purposes, should be accurate, complete, and up to date.

We will protect your personal information by reasonable security safeguards against loss or theft, as well as unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use, or modification.

Compliance with privacy laws protecting children

Our website and the Service is generally directed to people who are at least 13 years old even though it offers features, such as test practice materials, that can be used by children under 13 years of age. In any event, we strive to comply with the requirements of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (or COPPA) and do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 years except for names provided by a consenting adult and only as strictly necessary for us to provide the Service to children based on the consent of parents, legal guardians, and other consenting adults, such as the children’s teachers and tutors, who have registered to use the Service. If you are under the age of 13 years, please do not access our website or the Service without permission from your parent, legal guardian, or other consenting adult, such as your teacher or tutor, and do register for an account of your own. If you are under 13 years of age, and you are using the Service, access the Service using an account that your parent, legal guardian, or other consenting adult has given you permission to use. If you are a child under the age of 13 years or an adult or other person 13 years or older, and, despite our efforts described in this paragraph, you believe that we have accessed or used personal information provided by or pertaining to a child under the age of 13 years without the consent of the child’s parent or legal guardian, please contact us using one of the methods described in the previous paragraph and we will delete it.
